September 1st, 2009

In 1989, appears the fourth-generation Accord built based on the chassis CB. For the first time it is not available in 3 door. Another first in Japan and is distributed by the Honda Clio network. In Japan, a neighbor model (slight variation from the Agreement) named Ascot is marketed at the same time. Meanwhile the Honda Vigor evolves on its own to become a full model, receiving a 5-cylinder engine online.

This is one of the first cars in the world to have transparent glass lighthouse. All non-US models are powered with a 4-cylinder 2.2-liter electronically controlled.

This generation direct descendant of the first generation Acura Legend. Larger than the previous generation, it approaches the dimensions of the Ford Taurus, yet it is still classified as “compact”. Finishes LX and EX-i-i of the third generation are renewed. On the North American market is offered in finishes DX, LX, EX and EX-L (only for Canada). In some countries, the EX finish is called “Extra.” The 4-cylinder engine 125 hp input range is available in DX and LX trim. On finishing DX, the speed controller is removed and the air becomes an option. As for finishing LX retains the same equipment as the previous generation. Finally finishing EX, available with a more powerful engine of 10 hp through the expansion of the exhaust manifold and exhaust, it includes alloy wheels 15 inches, a sunroof, upgraded leather interior, a dual exhaust outlet, the anti-roll bars to the rear and a radio cassette.

To comply with safety regulations NHTSA from 1990 all models are equipped with safety belts with automatic triggering. This system was replaced in 1992 by installing airbags (airbags).

New options are available as an automatic transmission 4-speed electronically controlled and coupled to a hydraulic clutch, a CD player, 6 CD changer, fog lights front, alarm system, storage space, .. .

In 1991, Honda launched the estate version built in Marysville and exported to Europe (LHD and RHD). The break is only available in LX and EX finish, it provides a series of side air bag, driver side, added. A new finishing SE enriches the catalog, it includes: leather interior premium, a automatic transmission, ABS, two colors (silver metallic body and interior black graphite or British blue metallic bodywork and interior ivory) and airbags, driver and passenger. The finish is available in SE sedan with a new engine of 140 hp.

The Agreement was slightly restyled in 1992, and front and rear adopt more rounded forms. The coupe and sedan get a new grille, new headlamps, the side skirts molded and new rims. Finishing is no longer offered. The EX finish is available with 140 hp engine and is complemented by an anti-theft of the car and the ABS. On finishing the LX and EX lumbar support is dropped in favor of the driver armrest. Kit “gold” is added to the catalog of options.

To commemorate 10 years of production in the United States, Honda sells a special series available in three colors: arctic white, pearl black and pearl green. This series is based on the finish LX which is added to the ABS, disc brakes, alloy rims 15 inches, protective side moldings painted and automatic transmission.

The finish is reintroduced on SE sedan and coupe. This finish includes dual airbag, a Bose audio system, automatic transmission, leather interior color ivory chopsticks painted side protection and a special spoiler on the coupe. In Canada finishing SE also includes heated seats and heated outside mirrors. The coupe and sedan are equipped with special alloy wheels. All models SE sedan finish are manufactured in Japan and cut into finishing the SE United States. The sedan is available in two colors: silver and metallic green pearl. The coupe is it available in two colors: silver and metallic blue Atlantic.

In 1993, Honda sells the fifth generation chassis designed on the CD and opts for a more opulent. Wider but shorter than its predecessor, the Accord is no longer recognized as “compact” in North America. In Japan, it comes as an umbrella models Ascot and Rafaga.

This is the first agreement with U.S. and European models are different. The sedan for Europe is assembled in Britain in the Swindon plant. This model is not based directly on the chassis CD, but rather an evolution of the chassis CB already used to the Honda Ascot Innova. The coupe and wagon are, meanwhile, built in the United States. The British carmaker Rover, Honda partner, markets during the same period a model on the basis of the Agreement called Rover 600.

In North America, the Accord is available in finishes DX, LX and EX for the United States and finishing EX-R for Canada. This generation is accompanied by improvement of the automatic transmission 4 speed, a more ergonomic interior with serial two airbags and side reinforcements. The EX finish is available with a 4-cylinder VTEC engine of 2.2 liters (145 hp Announced it is really 130 hp) and includes ABS (optional on LX) of 15-inch alloy wheels (which are actually 14 inch steel), disc brakes, an anti-roll bar at the back and a leather interior (optional). The Agreement is designated Foreign Car of the Year in the United States. The coupe looks just like the sedan version and 2 doors for the last time the break is marketed in America.

In 1995, the V6 engine of 2.7 l (C27) of the Acura Legend is available in the U.S. market to compete with the V6 models of the Ford Taurus, Mazda 626 and Toyota Camry. With the V6 engine comes with dual exhaust, automatic transmission 4-speed, alloy rims of 15 inches and a special grille. The rest of the range changes very little, apart from the palette of colors. In New Zealand the V6 engine was replaced with a 4 cylinder 2.4 liter with the EX finish.

In 1996, the Accord features a more upscale design bumpers more rounded, slightly modified front, new headlights and taillights. All engines are designed according to the requirements of the federal office (OBD II). For more competitive direction of Honda decided to use a common platform for all sixth-generation Accord, while providing body and dimension adapted to each market.

In 1997 Honda sells a version of “Special Edition” (nothing to do with finishing SE). It comes in three colors: silver, red, San Marino and black pearl. It includes a security system, a keyless locking, a CD player, protective side moldings painted, special alloy wheels, a sunroof and an automatic transmission. This version is available with all engines finishing LX.

Check the first in its final form in the exhibition Villa d’Este, the One-77 has won the jury and the public and win in the category Concept Cars and Prototypes. A category now moot as it enters into (very small) number of 77 copies.

The other contenders not “small” is the Bertone Mantide, the Infiniti Petrol, BMW GINA, the Morgan Aeromax Supersports and S Fisker Karma and surprisingly, the concept of Mini 1997!

Aston Martin took the opportunity to launch three official images that illustrate their fans screen.
